Self-assessment for couples therapy – how is our relationship doing?

A relationship can be strong in many areas and feel stuck in others.

This self-assessment invites you to take a calm look at your partnership: where do you feel connected, where do patterns repeat, and which themes need more attention right now?

It is intended for couples who are considering whether couples therapy could help – in Stockholm or online.

The self-assessment does not rate your relationship as good or bad. It shows which areas currently carry the most weight.

How the couples self-assessment works

You respond to short statements about your relationship and indicate how well they apply at the moment. The statements cover communication, recurring conflict, repair after arguments, closeness and distance, trust, intimacy and your shared direction.

It is often most revealing when both partners complete the self-assessment separately and then compare their feedback. Different results are valuable: they show how differently two people can experience the same relationship.

What the feedback shows

The feedback describes where your answers point towards strain or stability. It suggests possible topics for conversation and indicates where couples therapy might begin.

If sexuality and intimacy are in the foreground, it also points to sexual therapy.

Privacy: your answers never leave your browser

Everything you enter is evaluated locally in your browser. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent to me.

When you close the page, your answers are gone. If you want to answer independently, it works best to use two separate devices.

If you do not feel safe in your relationship

If there is violence, threats or controlling behaviour in your relationship, your safety comes first, and joint couples therapy is not the right first step.

In an emergency, call 112. In Sweden, Kvinnofridslinjen offers support around the clock on 020-50 50 50.

Frequently asked questions about the couples self-assessment

Do we both need to complete the self-assessment ?

No. You can also use it on your own to clarify your own view. Completed separately and then discussed, however, it often offers the most insight.

What does it mean if our results are very different?

Different results are common in relationships. They are a good starting point for a conversation – between yourselves or in couples therapy.

Is the self-assessment suitable for same-sex couples?

Yes. The statements are worded independently of gender, sexual orientation and relationship form.
